Let's All-In Poker Sports Club
« on: October 09, 2010, 09:56:31 AM »
I went there yesterday and was amazed to see a very huge crowd -- their 40k gtd tourney attracted 100 players and while it's ongoing there were 6 cash tables running -- something you wouldn't see in any poker room, except Metro.

This made me ask, what's with LAPS?

I asked a couple of gals, and they told me they're a group of 21(!) officemates and they came all the way from Ortigas just to play there.

Why not Metro (or Midas Touch)? "We like here because we're winning here"

We left at 2 a.m. there we're still 8 cash game tables running (it peaked at 10) with four 10-20s, two 20-40s, one 25-50 and one 50-100.

So what’s with LAPS?

Good things going for laps:

1.  BIG FLOOR SPACE - It is definitely the biggest poker room down south...

2.  WELL LIGHTED -  Among the poker rooms, except siguro sa RWM (which is essentially a casino), itong LAPS and maliwanag ang dating.  Most of the poker rooms kasi eh parang club... Medyo dim light.  Advantage: Duon mo makikita kung sino talaga maganda at flawless ang skin. Ngek!

3.  AFFORDABLE TOURNAMENTS - 250 petot; and

4.  FREE AND SPACIOUS PARKING - Pwedeng-pwede mo nga sabihin it is the Metro of Southern MM!   8) 8) 8)

One thing I find attractive, especially to the tournament rounders, is its rather flat payout structure.

In its 40k gtd tourney last night, which created a total prize pool of 50K, the payout structure was:

1st – 10k + seat to Saturday tourney
2nd – 7k + seat
3rd – 6k + seat
4th – 5k + seat
5th – 4.5k
6th – 4k
7th – 3k
8th – 2.5k
9th – 2k
10th – 1.5k
11th – 500
12th – 500

I like it because that winning a tournament is long shot no matter how good you are. And with most of the daily tourneys having a “turboish” structure, luck usually becomes a major major factor particularly at the end game.

I think that by having a flat payout structure like the one above would somehow reward players, who made ITM through skills but unfortunately overran by other’s luck.

Dagdag ko na rin.  Yung 250 petot is equivalent to 8,000 in tournament chips.  Blinds start at 100/100.  Kung hindi ka mainipin... pwede mong patagalin yung starting stack of 8k... Killing time for 250 petot. Not bad. parang nanuod ka lang ng sine.

But i hope they improve their blind structure.... i don't like their late introduction of ante made worse by it being so small in relation to the blinds -- 1k/2k blinds with 100 ante?!!!!! ano kaya yun?!!!!!

No mention of blind duration? is it 12 minutes or less per level?

Actually it depends on which lists your are in, i'm lucky the LAPS misplaced my number.  i get awaken by SMS' from METRO daily, but NO ONE BEATS MASTERS - just this afternoon i got consecutive multi barrels SMS' for tomorrows free roll.  i'm still adamant it is not worth my family time.

So what is the blind level length of LAPS tournaments now?

I think LAPS has a relatively diluted shark population, given that there are 5 other active poker rooms within the same geographic area that's within reasonable traveling distance. But then, that's just me guessing. Ian's there, so may mutinying shark na rin doon. LOL!

If you note the post pertains to our experience in their daily tourneys which are 15 minutes or less in blind duration.  I agree though you will make money in the cash games but the bankrolls here may not be attractive enough.

Simplest way is to take any transport that goes to Baclaran via ROXAS BLVD from MANILA (or to Lawton coming from NAIA), get off WORLD TRADE CENTER BUENDIA.  HK SUN PLAZA is on other end of WTC facing D MAC blvd.  If you can not walk the distance, take jeepney to bring you inside the complex, get down at the DAMPA stop and cross the street (heath hazard) with care towards the HK SUN Plaza, enter via the center main arcade entrance.

their friday freezeout tourney starts with 12k chips for each player, 15 minutes per level with very gradual blinds increase....last friday before the start of the final table the TD decided to make it a 20-minute per level coz the average BB is just around 10.

as for the cash game, i observed that most of the tables have deep stacks...i witnessed a 37k pot in a 25/50 table...also saw i player with 30k stack in 25/50 and he said he's still down.

The crowd is a mixture of yuppies, old westerners (most are nits), wild koreans, and of course the notorious Malate Mob  ;D

Di naman chismax bro. It's not a secret that there's a group of players who frequent the different Manila poker rooms with less than savory tactics. Kung sinu-sino, yun medyo chismis na. LOL!

If there's gonna be a PM "field trip" of LAPS, let me know when. Sama ako. Just need a signature on the reply slip. LOL!

Wait, isn't this the place where a PM member almost got robbed by some guys on motorcycles who brandished knives at him?  Buti na lang may baril si PM member (hopefully licensed) and he got those robbers scurrying away.

OT: Paalala lang sa mga PM people, may election gun ban sa Pinas ngayon.  So unless may COMELEC exemption ka, leave your gun at home.
