CG regs @ Metrowalk- some questions
« on: June 23, 2012, 04:05:07 PM »
Hi all,

I've been playing online poker (mainly SnG's) for a while now but I'm considering to learn and mix it up with some live CG @ the metro in the near future..

Therefore, I was thinking: Can anybody, who is a live CG reg/shark  :P @ metro, kindly tell me how much their winrate is on average playing either 10/20, 25/50 or 50/100 limit? (since it's quite difficult to have/track these kind of 'stats' playing live CG some good estimation based on your experience, manual records ?, etc. would do  :) )

..Or could someone (preferably those metro CG regs :) ) just kindly tell me how much potential money you can make on average a month with the assumption that you are an average good/ok reg playing either 10/20, 25/50, or 50/100 (for x amount of hours)? ..

Sorry if these questions tends to be a bit 'stupid'.. hehe.. since it's not that easy to track  these things compared to online poker.. Nonetheless, it's worth trying since I believe serious regs would have some kind of manual playing records, BRM, etc. right ..  :)

Thx in advance

Greettzz

50/100 at the Metro this days is just tough... it's rare there's an outright fish in the table and you go up against a lot of regs... 10/20 rake is too high to make a living out of it... 25/50 not too sure...

if you want to make a living out of being a cash game reg, play online. Try to get to nL 50 or nl 100 and you should be able to live comfortably, or try PLO25. Be careful however, online games are faster and more brutal. Your leaks will be exposed and you will have to adjust quickly or else you'll be making that deposit over and over again.

As for Metro, 10-20 is just too tilty to play in and yes, rake is too high and short stackers are just annoying to play with. 25-50 and 50-100 are filled w/ sharks and regs. If you live near, play at RW 25-50 or 50-100. Games are soft and playing TIGHT aggressive will provide you w/ good money.

As for me, I work in the mornings, play 4 tables of NL10 or PLO5 at night at Pokerstars or 25-50/50-100 at RW once a week if I am not busy with other more interesting stuff. My winrate at NL10 is not something to be proud of, 1.5BB/100 hands and I am not tracking my PLO stuff. haha. As for 25-50 or 50-100, I buy in for 100BB and once I double up, I'll probably relax, have a beer or go home. I have no qualms in revealing my live income in poker, on normal months and good play, i probably earn about 25k a month, more if I am lucky and almost zero if I am donking and I am very happy with this status quo. No way I'll be a full time poker pro, my mentality is not cut for it.

Try to have a consistent job when you are starting, and make poker as a living once you reach significant stakes and if you feel that you can take on the swings, bad beats, bad players, tilt and on those days wherein you play like a drunk donkey. Or build a nice bankroll, and play part time for a second income and if you lose, it won't feel so bad. Hope this helps.

what do you mean by NL 100? is that the max buy-in or the blind?

NL 100 is the buy in. So blinds there are .5-1 usd. similar to almost 25-50 when converted. :)

Sinabi naman niya that he plays online na. Para maiba lang kaya niya gusto malaman if it's profitable enough to play live.

Having said that, i think the consensus is that if you want to play higher stakes, mahihrapan na sa metro. Not as consistent and no more fish. As for lower stakes, the short stackers are a pain. So, i guess the conclusion is play elsewhere to get better results. :D

They're trying but so far not working that much. I have given some suggestions before but none implemented (at least on a consistent basis)

For a few reasons but TBH mainly because I actually think I cannot beat online NL50+ where the big(ger) big bucks are. Though playing live poker comes along with less benefits (such as higher rake, 1 table only, tips etc.) the softness of the game (live poker)  would compensate for that (e.g. relatively much higher winrate on ave.).. But reading the answers of this post, sadly, it seems that is no longer true..  :o

SNG is probably the least 'skilled' poker format compared to CG & MTT's. Anyway, after playing thousands of it, I'm still excited every time I win HU  :D.. So it's def. my game.. I was just thinking to mixed it up a bit just for a change.. like CG but I'd like to be a longterm winner  :P..

any idea how much the rake is for 10/20 (and maybe for 25/50 & 50/100)? I believed 10% is quite standard for live poker?..

Basically, more of as a side (poker) income lol ..

it seems RW is the way to go ! :D (btw could u explain me why RW tends to be much softer than metroclub?)

Ok. thx for ur honest reply and advice.. just to make sure you make 25k/month on ave. by only playing during your free time?

Try to have a consistent job when you are starting, and make poker as a living once you reach significant stakes and if you feel that you can take on the swings, bad beats, bad players, tilt and on those days wherein you play like a drunk donkey. Nice advice. I totally agree! poker is tough (esp. mentally!) and gets tougher araw-araw !:D

You can still make money off 50/100 but its not like before where it was really so soft. Just to give you an idea 3 yrs back there was a time i had 20+ straight winning sessions. And often I would have 1-2 losing sessions against 10. And that was playing at autopilot mode.

Nowadays you really have to make use of every skill and tricks up you sleeve. Then it wasn't uncommon to win 300-500bb in one session. Now when you're up 7-10k you have to think of going into "jogging" mode.

Anyway my advice would be to try it out for a couple of months. Dont leave online yet but play a mix. You never know maybe live poker is the game for you.

I play really tight in these live games. Especially at 50-100 in RW. And most times, when I double up; I usually stand up and play even tighter. In online terms, I "bum hunt". LOL. I play like an ABC nit here and play like 5 to 6 times a month. I do what 11finger has said here, when I am up 7k to 10k; I start to go jogging as well.

I think games at RW are softer because most players are either retired guys with nothing better to do at home or tourists or gamblers who are actually baccarat or 21 players or recreational ABC/hobbyist type of players who are not out of line so you can actually predict the way they play. Unlike in metro card, lahat ng players try to out-level each other and sharks are getting too big and too hungry now.

Not that sure about this but I think rake is higher at 10-20 because pots are too small vs. the rake. Unlike at 25-50 or 50-100, there is a "rake cap" so your big pots are not affected much by the rake.

Thx for ur advice. i'll def. take that into consideration.. That's true, who knows  :).. In any case, nope, I have no intentions at all to leave my main game SnG's.. but I'm def. open for (live) CG.. for a change.. hehe

hehe well, good RW has still some fish pool.. :D..

That actually make sense.. Online the rake also reduces as you move up in stakes (in SnG's, don't know about CG, but probably also..)

Thx a lot!.. helped me a lot!  ;)

50/100 at the Metro this days is just tough... it's rare there's an outright fish in the table and you go up against a lot of regs... 10/20 rake is too high to make a living out of it... 25/50 not too sure...

any idea how much the rake is for 10/20 (and maybe for 25/50 & 50/100)? I believed 10% is quite standard for live poker?..
for 10 20 it is 200 max if the pot does not reach the  2000 it is 10 %

it's 300 max for 20/40 and 25/50.
